The Benefits of Mobiles for Infants

When choosing the right mobile for baby cribs, it is important to note that not all mobiles are created equal. All mobiles are designed to help keep your baby busy, but not all are designed to stimulate the development of your child’s mind. When choosing the right mobile, there are a few key factors that every parent should keep in mind.

Many mobiles are designed to be easily matched with a nursery décor. This means soft colors including pastels and other unsaturated hues. While they may look nice, this is not ideal in helping develop your baby’s visual senses. Infants have difficulty seeing soft colors, which means that these mobiles will not be as stimulating as others. When choosing a mobile, look for models that have attachments that are white, black, red, and one or more bright colors. Your child will have a much easier time seeing bright colors and it will help greatly as your child’s vision develops.

A good developmental mobile should also have several moving parts and points of articulation. Mobiles with attachments that allow for more rotations and movements will help your child with spatial relations. Not only that, but these mobiles will also engage your infant for longer periods of time. Even a child can decipher simple movement patterns and become bored, so complex patterns will help them stay occupied longer.

Lastly, look for a mobile that has incorporates audio as well as visual elements. Many mobiles on the market today come equipped with a music box to help entertain, stimulate, and relax your child. The high-end models even let you choose between stimulating or soothing music to help either engage or help relax your baby. The combination of visual and audio elements is the best way to help with the development of an infant and music especially is an essential part of developing a healthy and well adjusted child.
